Joe Lindsay handcrafts high quality Scottish Targes in his tiny workshop in the Village of North Kessock, near Inverness, in the Highlands of Scotland.
North Kessock is a small village on the shore of the Moray Firth, and is only 5 miles from Culloden Battlefield where the last Battle was fought on British soil in 1745 when Bonnie Prince Charlie led his Jacobite followers into Battle.
SCOTTISH TARGES

There are 18 different designs, all of which Joe has carefully researched by visiting Museums, private collections, and Scottish Castles where many of the original targes are still held. Each targe is individually handcrafted to accurately reflect the beauty of the original designs. They are made of a circular piece of wood about 19 inches in diameter, covered in leather (cowhide) on the front. The back is covered in long-haired Scottish deerskin, with handle and armstrap, and a leather "keeper" for the spike (if it has one). The front is hand dyed, patterned and nailed up with brass studs (sometimes up to 900 per targe). Every piece of decorative brass is handcut, and each boss is hammered to shape by hand. Each Scottish Targe comes boxed, with an individual History Ticket attached, and can be shipped WORLDWIDE - see Price List and Postage and Packing Costs below.
Joe has been making Scottish targes since 1989, and so far has made over 1,800. Scottish Targes by Joe Lindsay are Collectors' pieces, and are to be found in all corners of the world. People from all over the world, including many Americans, Canadians and Australians intent on tracing their Scottish roots are delighted to take home one of Joe's Scottish Jacobite targes - a genuine piece of craftwork handmade in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.
